With each time I open the word I ask the Lord to speak to me. It is amazing how things come alive after that. In 2 Peter this morning I was reading through the passage that deals with the fruit of the Spirit. Just before this passage it tells us that we have received everything we need to live a godly life. We have been given many promises."5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
8 The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.2 Peter 1:5-9"
If we fail to develop then we will not be useful. What a crime for us to not prepare and fail at the things that God has for us. Picture being blind and trying to move around an unfamiliar place. That's how we would seem in light of this scripture if we fail to grow.
Let's not be shortsighted or blind. But let's remember that we have been forgiven and given a new lease on life. A life that continues to pursue Christ!
BE sure that your bible doesn't take a role where the dust sets over it on a shelf!
